Steelers @ Ravens 2011"Put up or Shut up" preview

All the off-season talk from both sides. Mostly Ravens side anyway. I'm gonna give a bit of how the season started last year then go into where we are now.

Last year began with hype around Ravens not only winning the AFC North, but winning the Super Bowl. Being picked by several people. Steelers are gonna fail because of injuries and Ben out first four games. It really didn't make 90% of the idiots who buy in the garbage look that good at all. The media changed their mind about the Ravens when the season was over. Steelers won the division and Ravens get wildcard berth. Steelers got a bye week while Ravens played the Chiefs in the first round. Flacco played well which made some morons believe he could do the same vs the steelers. I mean last year was his breakout year, right? All I hear is he improved every single year. I could see that if he improve by more then 10 yards at the end of the year, but come on now. Steelers proved the idiotic doubters wrong after WW3 happened. Suggs and all Ravens pounding their chests saying they are gonna come out on top and so on. At the end of the day, with Ben as the starting quarterback for the Steelers vs Flacco's led Ravens 0-6. 2 including in playoff games.

Off-season 2011:

Appearing on NFL Network's Total Access earlier this month, Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley was asked if Joe Flacco could lead the Ravens to a Super Bowl.

"No, not at all because they have to go through one team -- that's the Pittsburgh Steelers in that AFC championship," Woodley said. "So in order for them to get to the Super Bowl, they have to beat us, and we're not gonna let that happen once we get that close. So that's not gonna happen in this lifetime."

A few days later, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, also appearing on NFL Network, responded to Woodley's comments. “We don’t need any bulletin board material to get ready for [the Steelers] or anybody else, but we’ll be ready for LaMarr Woodley and the rest of that football team and they know it.”

Last weekend, Flacco was finally asked about Woodley's "not gonna happen in this lifetime" observations.

“[Woodley] obviously doesn’t know what he’s talking about," Flacco told WBAL's Keith Mills and Pete Gilbert. "At some level, I don’t care [what Woodley says] because what does that really mean? But there is another level where it does kind of piss you off a little bit.”

Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Dhani Jones says Flacco can't handle pressure and makes too many bad decisions.

NFL Network analyst Jamie Dukes says Flacco doesn't work hard enough.

Ryan Clark vs Ray Rice twitter debates.

We’ve frequently called the Ravens and Steelers the best current rivalry in the NFL.   Steelers safety Ryan Clark doesn’t see it that way.

“People try to make this game between the Ravens and the Steelers like so much of a rivalry, of a fight, you know. You can say it’s a rivalry if you like, but for something to be a rivalry, I think both teams have to win equally,” Clark told KDKA via the Baltimore Sun.  ”The hate between the fans doesn’t make it a rivalry. Teams have to win equally, and that really hasn’t been the case in our situation.”

Ravens QB Joe Flacco was a guest on “The Scott Van Pelt Show” on ESPN radio in which he too called himself a top five NFL quarterback.

According to Matt Vensel of the Baltimore Sun, Flacco was asked about Eli Manning’s comments and responded that he felt the same way Eli did.  ”I think of myself the same way,” he said.  ”You don’t want to talk about yourself as a quarterback, but here in Baltimore, we’ve won a lot of games in the last three years and we’ve won playoff games each year. And when you’re talking about football games, it’s all about winning football games and that’s what we’ve done.”

With all of that stuff said and done. It is time for one man really to live up to the hype. That player is named Joe Flacco. That is why I called this "put up or shut up" preview. It is time for Flacco to earn some respect. Here is 3 of the main ways for him to earn my respect.

1.Beat Steelers with Ben in the starting lineup-Flacco led Ravens have yet to beat the Steelers with Ben in the lineup. The only wins he has in resume vs the Steelers is while Batch was in and Dixon(1st start went OT). 0-6 and 2 losses in the playoffs. Wanna call yourself the best? Beat the BEST!!

2.Perform well in the playoffs-He has played in 7 games in the postseason. 2 of those games he has a passer rating above 62. His average is 60 or 61 currently with 4 TDs and 7 interceptions.

3.Win a Super Bowl-Some value stats, others value MVPs, I personally think the Super Bowl is the best prize of them all. I agree with Woodley!! Surprised??SurprisedDon't be.....STAY JEALOUS!!Cool

Who had the better Super Bowl run?

All we hear is how great this or that quarterback is. Every time Ben gets in the conversation it always ends up the same. He is credited for having Steelers defense. They always bring up Super Bowl XL game as well which is fine. He didn't play great of course I can admit, but to say he deserves no credit at all for that Super Bowl run is idiotic in my opinion. That Super Bowl game overshadows how great the guy played in 3 of the games on the road to get to that Super Bowl.

I got the idea about the topic from all the haters keep bringing the Super Bowl up along with some Manning thread about how many rings he should have if he had this or that. I showed my respect to Peyton in my reply. I saw others reply talking about interceptions in big games. I looked at his playoff stats the year the Colts won the Super Bowl. I wasn't that impressed. Which is why I ask the question: Who had the better Super Bowl run? I will post the stats for you. I used pro football reference site by the way. Here you go...

Peyton Manning's Super Bowl run:
78.9 comp%/1 TD/3 int/pass per attempt 7.05/passer rating 71.9/Colts win vs KC 23-8
50.0 comp%/0 TD/2 int/pass per attempt 5.67/passer rating 39.6/Colts win @ Bal 15-6
57.4 comp%/1 TD/1 int/pass per attempt 7.43/passer rating 79.1/1 rush TD/Colts win vs NE 38-34
65.8 comp%/1 TD/1 int/pass per attempt 6.50/passer rating 81.8/Colts win vs Chi 29-17

Ben Roethlisberger's Super Bowl run:
73.7 comp%/3 TD/0 int/pass per attempt 10.9/passer rating 148.7/Steelers win @ Cincy 31-17
58.3 comp%/2 TD/1 int/pass per attempt 8.2/passer rating 95.3/Steelers win @ Indy 21-18
72.4 comp%/2 TD/0 int/pass per attempt 9.5/passer rating 124.9/Steelers win @ Den 34-17
42.9 comp%/0 TD/2 int/pass per attempt 5.9/passer rating 22.6/1 rush TD/Steelers win vs Sea 21-10

Tom Brady's Super Bowl run
61.5 comp%/0 TD/1 int/pass per attempt 6.0/passer rating 70.4/1 rush TD/Patriots win vs Oak 16-13
66.7 comp%/0 TD/0 int/pass per attempt 6.4/passer rating 84.3/Patriots win @ Pit 18-12
59.3 comp%/1 TD/0 int/pass per attempt 5.4/passer rating 86.2/Patriots win vs STL 20-17

I think it is without question....Ben Roethlisberger had the better numbers. I suppose I can let the rest of you to decide especially you critics who will find some how to make Peyton's better, but you can't. Ben Roethlisberger's Super Bowl run was far superior than Peyton's and Tom's. You can go by stats, the fact he was on the road, ect. Enjoy....

Pre FA 'Who's goin to the playoffs?' thread

The reason pre FA is in the title: NFL has yet to have free agency. These predictions are before anybody makes that big move to help their team get to the playoffs. I know haters will join on here and say I was wrong after A team made the playoffs after getting a top free agent to help them get there. This is my pre free agency "Who's goin to the playoffs" thread. All haters, critics, friends, and fans are welcome.

The question everyone asks during the off-season is "who is goin to the playoffs." That is why I'm here folks.....to give you the answers. So plz when you're done reading my predictions you can leave a comment, give us your predictions, and enjoy my art. Thank you!!

The better question is "who is not making the playoffs?"
AFC
Bills-HAHA! This may be a shocker to some, but I have Bills finishing 3rd in the AFC East. Of course, they arn't making the playoffs.
Dolphins-Their offense was through the running game. 2 FAs could not return. I don't like Dolphins chances.
Titans-rebuilding mode along with the fact other three teams in division had better drafts in my opinion.
Texans-everyone's beloved darkhorse will again fail to get to the postseason.
Jaguars-You proved me wrong last year, but until you beat the Colts to win the division.....I don't see it happening.
Broncos-I'm hearing chants "Tebow" to end the season. Unfortunately, it won't be in the playoffs.
Raiders-I have them finishing last in their division.
Chiefs-I was happy for the team's success last season. I figure SD will find a way to get back on track to the playoffs.
Bengals-too many questions with the team along with Browns being a better football team.
Browns-a year or 2 away from taking Ravens spot.

NFC
Skins-Big Al making too much dough along with McNabb wanting out. Too many question marks.
Eagles-Teams figured out how to defend Vick. The team will finish 3rd.
Falcons-most over-rated team in the league last year. Gave up too much to get Jones.
Panthers-Could get the number 1 pick next year.
Seahawks-I was shocked they won the division. Division won't be that bad next year.
Cardinals-this team along with 49ers are most of the reason I put pre FA in the title. A quarterback addition could get a division title.
49ers-read Cardinals.
Vikings-Ponder isn't enough. Rice may be gone as well along with Pat Williams.
Bears-prove me wrong
Lions-Have them finishing 2nd......just missed. Next year for sure.

"Who is making the playoffs?"
AFC
Patriots-No one beats them at home.....during the regular season.
Steelers-doubters proved wrong last year. This year will be the same. Only difference.....Super Bowl belongs to Pittsburgh! #7!
Colts-They make the playoffs, I believe 11 straight x.
Chargers-depends on V-Jax return or replacement.
Jets-Didn't make AFC championship 2 straight years for nothing.
Ravens-How far they go depends on their run game.

NFC
Cowboys-4th place schedule along with good draft.
Packers-unless serious injury........
Saints-After that draft....how can you bet against them?
Rams-Shoulda won the division last year.
Giants-D-Jax ain't gonna get that lucky....again.
Bucs-Solid draft......team is only gonna get better.

Surprised??SurprisedDon't be..........STAY JEALOUS!!Cool

ATKOOL: Packers vs Steelers aftermath

I'll start out by saying I'm not here to make excuses nor am I here to bash Aaron Rodgers or the Green Bay Packers. I wanted to make that clear before I rant on the Super Bowl and what not. I'm gonna state my feelings going in, also the game itself my reaction, than of course my feelings about the Steelers and Packers going forward.

Sunday's Super Bowl game I had no doubt it would be a great game. Both teams are great....if they weren't they wouldn't be in this position. All the talk about Roethlisberger and partying on Tuesday. It got rather annoying.....for some reason it didn't feel that same vibe that I had in 2008 about this Super Bowl. It is and was very weird. I was contemplating the logo and what would look better beside of it. It looked better towards the Packers to me than the Steelers. I don't know why, but it did. When up and got me a Steelers shirt I think it was the night before the game? Anyways it was the stairway to 7 shirt. I had plans of wearing it Monday. I was confident the Steelers would win like most Steeler fans are. I heard a report before game I think it was on ESPN where Tomlin was cutting practice short and letting the players have fun. I thought than did we not want the championship? Ya know....ya can't take your opponent lightly which I think the Steelers ended up doing.

Day of the Super Bowl I couldn't get to sleep. Stayed up till 8 am and finally went to sleep for a few hours. Turned the preview show on Fox at 4 or 5 pm. Saw Jerry Jones and Aikman ect. talking about the Cowboys. I quickly changed the channel. Turned it back saw the interview Ben had wondering what it would be like to be on the other side watching another team winning after a loss. Well he got that feeling after the game. I was surprised by the slow start going down 21-3. I got very upset with the performance thus far. Than it started clicking throughout the game til mid 4th quarter. Steelers got the 2 point conversion down by 3. I expected defense to stop them and Steelers run the clock down for a TD. Didn't happen Packers scored a field goal. Thought at the time this is what Ben does best. He can get it done. Kickoff dumb play by Fox I believe it was for that shove after the play was over. In any case watched the Steelers do no huddle and it seemed like their was a lot of miscommunication. After the first couple passes Ben completed I thought Steelers could get it done. Than Wallace not knowing the play was really the downfall where I didn't want to believe it came down to a 4th down conversion. Incomplete of course.....quickly turned the game off. Couldn't watch the other team celebrate especially Rodgers.

Family member wanted to type an essay paper for her Monday class. I just went to sleep early. Was given 5 sections of Math to do which is the reason I wasn't on here yesterday or Sunday night. Did hear a lot of Steeler haters Monday. Decided to still wear the Stairway to 7 shirt even though Pit lost. Not gonna get into what they said simply because this is far longer than it should be. Get to aftermath:

Steelers had one helluva season. No one can disagree with that with all the crap that the team had to go through. Do I believe the Steelers will miss the playoffs next season? No! Do I believe Ben is elite? Yea just a rough game. I don't believe it was karma guys. He paid his dues to get where he was at. He was suspended for it. That was the karma my friend. I don't think the Steelers wanted it as much as the Packers did. As I said stopping practice a bit short to have fun and what not. Packers do deserve that Super Bowl. They earned it and no one can disagree with that. Packers D forced 3 turnovers. They played a great game and deserve to be called the Super Bowl champs. Even though I didn't watch the end of the game along with who the MVP was named. It was Aaron Rodgers of course. Get texts from ESPN for NFL news. He played a pretty good game. I personally would have given it to the defensive player who scored the TD. Forget his name....sorry guys as I said I don't follow the Packers. I know very few defensive players on their football team. Woodson and Matthews are probably it for me. Not bashing Rodgers. The guy is elite and a great quarterback. Would I take him over Ben? No! Do I think the Steelers won their last Super Bowl under Ben Roethlisberger? Not a chance....I can see him winning two more at least before he hangs his helmet up. Do I believe the Packers will be in the Super Bowl again under Aaron Rodgers? Of course.....no doubt in my mind. Wouldn't surprise me in the future we see a Super Bowl rematch. This to is just the beginning of a Steelers/Packer rivalry. Ben Roethlisberger vs Aaron Rodgers rivalry as well. They are the next generation. To me they are right up there with Manning and Brady if not above them. I certainly believe Rodgers and Ben are above Brees. Just an opinion of course. Anyways I'm open to taking some bashing from you guys I suppose or even answer questions you might have for me. LOL! I hope Steelers get to avenge the loss in the Super Bowl at some point. Fact of the matter is the Packers are the 2010 Super Bowl 45 champs whether I like it or not. Congrats to Packers and their fans. Certainly deserve it for one helluva season. Surprised??SurprisedDon't be......STAY JEALOUS!!Cool

NFL Super Bowl 45 Steelers vs Packers preview

A battle between two NFL historic franchises. Both teams are quoted as "the best teams of all-time." The two teams are in difference conferences. The Pittsburgh Steelers vs the Green Bay Packers. What a matchup! Couldn't ask for a better one. Both teams deserve to be where they are at. They are headed to Dallas in front of probably the largest crowd to ever witness a Super Bowl. I got a text the other day saying it is expected 105,000 fans will be in the Stadium. In any case here is my preview for the Super Bowl 45.

Packers: Their keys to win this football game is pretty clear. Protect Aaron Rodgers, Defense stop the run, defense get in Roethlisbergers face all game long, and finally special teams don't give up good field position. Do all that they should win the football game.

Steelers: Same thing on special teams, get a running game going, protect Ben, defense get in Rodgers face, defense don't allow a running game. They do that and win time of possession they should win this football game.

I think that is critical for both teams is time of possession. It will be key in these evenly matched teams. I'm gonna pick the Steelers to win this football game and I fully expect a classic ending.

I wanna make this perfectly clear......Aaron Rodgers is an elite quarterback. He is one of the best in the game right now. To me he is a top 5 quarterback. I don't believe this will be the last time Rodgers/Packers and Roethlisberger/Steelers will face off in a Super Bowl. To me this is a beginning of a rivalry. These two guys will be the best two quarterbacks in the game when Brady and Manning finally hang up their boots. I felt as if I been a bit too harsh on Rodgers. He is a great quarterback and Ben Roethlisberger is as well.

A look back at Steelers/Packers season

A battle between two NFL historic franchises. Both teams are quoted as "the best teams of all-time." The two teams are in difference conferences. The Pittsburgh Steelers vs the Green Bay Packers. What a matchup! Couldn't ask for a better one. Both teams deserve to be where they are at. They are headed to Dallas in front of probably the largest crowd to ever witness a Super Bowl. I got a text the other day saying it is expected 105,000 fans will be in the Stadium. In any case before I give my preview for the Super Bowl I'm gonna state some of the struggles both teams have had this season to get to where they are.

As a Steeler fan I will probably name more for the fact I know more about the franchise cuz I'm a Steelers fan. Both teams have faced a lot of adversity to get to where they are. For the Steelers it started in the off-season. Ben was suspended for 6 games than later reduced to 4 games. Leftwich expected to be the starter than got injured so Dixon got the nod. He got injured in the Titans football game. Batch took the reigns and by the time Ben returned the team had a record of 3-1. Of course offensive lineman Willie Colon was injured before the season along with other injuries. No one expected the Steelers to win the division, but the Steelers ended up doing just that. 1 loss to all division rivals. It is rather impressive record they ended with 12 wins. James Harrison controversy began during a Cleveland Browns game which he was fined for a lot of hits during the year. Fines were later reduced. Ben Roethlisberger and the passing game did just fine without Holmes. If you ask me the Steelers did just as good as they did last year. Mike Wallace had emerged in my opinion a top 5 wideout! Holmes was traded during the offseason and Steelers were given a 5th round pick in return. I was upset when I heard, but happy now. In any case the Steelers exceeded expectations. Proved all the doubters wrong. They defeated the Ravens and the Jets in the playoffs. Both teams were media picks before the season began. Successful season that is not done just yet.....The Super Bowl championship game is about a week or so away.

Packers also exceeded expectations with several of their starters being put on IR, Aaron Rodgers concussions, the list goes on. They were forced to win 3 or so amount of games to even get to the playoffs. On the road as a wildcard defeating great teams. The likes include Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears, and the Atlanta Falcons. Their sites are now on the Super Bowl championship. Now facing their biggest challenge of them all as is Pittsburgh. Their is one team in their way of getting a Super Bowl championship. I can tell ya it will be one helluva game. I will make a Super Bowl preview after I post this. Sorry I had more to say about the Steelers than the Packers. Just that I don't really follow their football team. On Sundays I may check if they win or lose, but other than that I really don't follow the team.

Patriot fans pick the winner, Jets or Steelers

I figured someone would make this post by now. Obviously no one has so I figure I will post it. I've been wondering this ever since Sunday......who will the Patriot fans root for? Been on various posts and some Pat fans are stating they want the Jets to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. Others are posting they are rooting for the Steelers. I honestly have no idea who they are gonna root for in this ball game. Patriot fans hate both football teams. So I'm wondering who will they be rooting for to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. What a better way than just ask them myself via poll.

Will they root for the Jets? I figure they hate the Jets now more than ever before since the Jets knocked them out of the playoffs. The Jets have been talking all season long is kind of the reason most fan bases hate the football team. They have enough bragging rights as it is with the postseason victory over the Pats. Just imagine if they represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.

Will they root for the Steelers? The Steelers have been one of best football teams for the past decade. Winning percentage shows that along with two Super Bowl championships. Two Super Bowl wins since the Pats have had 1. I highly doubt Pat fans want them to be anymore successful for those reasons. Not only that, but Tom Brady has 3 Super Bowl rings which is one of the reasons he is reguarded as one of the best quarterbacks of all-time. Ben has the oppurtunity to tie the amount of rings if the Steelers are victorious.

It is a lose-lose for Patriot fans here. So who are you rooting for? Jets or the Steelers? If you arn't a Patriot fan vote for who you think they should vote for and explain why.

Jets vs Steelers AFC championship preview

Both teams have faced before in a December meeting. It came down to the final seconds. Jets won the football game. To me that doesn't matter nor it will factor in this football game. Just because they won last time doesn't mean that they will win again nor does it mean that they can't beat the Steelers twice. As a Steelers fan I believe the Steelers will win reguardless because in my opinion they are the better football team. I'm sure many others will agree which it doesn't matter what their opinion in. Of course it doesn't matter it won't factor in the football game. If it did Jets wouldn't have won last week nor would the Saints have lost to the Seahawks. Anyways here are the keys for both football teams to win the football game:

Jets: If Cromartie can guard(hold Wallace's jersey and get away with it like last time)Mike Wallace and keep him from making big plays along with defense putting pressure on Ben than they have a good chance of winning the football game. One decisive advantage the Jets have that the Steelers don't is a great special teams. It will play a factor as it did in the last game. Jets scored a TD on special teams last time they played Pittsburgh. Led to a victory despite their offense only scoring one TD!! On offense of course run the football as always. Control the tempo and protect Sanchez. They do all that than they leave with a victory.

Steelers: Stop the run on defense which they are capable of doing. They have stopped the best of the best in the game this year(Hillis, Turner, and the list goes on). Force Sanchez to throw the football. Create turnovers and I figure they will get an INT in this football game. Defense should be alright....if not for McFadden giving up big plays to Edwards Steelers would have won that football game. Of course they can't let them get good field position or let them score on special teams. Wish Steelers would get a touchback on kickoffs more than 5 times a year. LOL! On offense try to get a running game going, protect Ben, and of course don't get penalized. I think the Steelers get penalized for holding 2-5 times every game. Go deep with Wallace cuz the refs may see the pass interference this time. Get Miller involved in the passing game as well. If they do all that they will win the football game.

I do believe it will be a close game. Again picking the Steelers to win which is obvious. Winner goes to Dallas to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. To me the winner of this football game will be crowned the Super Bowl champions of 2010.
