NBA Western Conference seeding predictions 2012

Did Eastern Conference.....why not West?

1.OKC-Last year, my pick to represent the Finals. Almost got there, but this year....they'll get there.

2.Memphis-Best frontcourt in the Western Conference! Griz emerged last season defeating the Spurs in the first round of the playoffs. Now, with a short season, I figure the team will take advantage of it.

3.Lakers-No Odom will definately hurt this team this year. Probably worse than I'm giving them here. Bynum's health will determine this team's fate now that Odom is gone. Who would replace him in the starting lineup? Exactly!!

4.Mavs-No Chandler=no repeat. I do like the additions Mavs did make o, but I don't think it will be enough. One could argue they will be better than LA, but I'm not a big fan of Haywood and I think they lost more than they gained.

5.Clippers-Addition of CP3 and Butler, a lot of fans are excited about the Clippers. I'm not totally sold on this team just yet to annoint them a top team in the West. One of the reasons I am hesitant is because of the history of injuries Butler. Do they have depth?

6.Blazers-Don't know much about Camby and his arrest, but sad ending to Roy's career. Figure the team will be in the mix for the playoffs with Felton running the show.

7.Spurs-Health is always a concern for the Spurs in the past. Lucky enough last season to stay healthy for the most part until Manu got hurt right before the playoffs. With a lot of back to back games, it is doubtful that these guys will stay healthy. Out of respect for the Spurs, I'm not gonna count them out.

8.Nuggets-Who knows? A lot of Nuggets talent isn't even playing in America. Any team could take this slot.

Pre-FA Teams to look out for next season

I decided to choose 3 teams from each conference. Teams of course that weren't in the top 4 of either conference last season.

Eastern Conference:
Indiana Pacers-They have a bunch of cap room and they got a solid group coming back. I expect them to be back in the playoffs next season and a higher seed. Possibly 5th or 6th seed in the East. That is what I'm expecting.
New Jersey Nets-They have the money. Who knows who they bring in through FA? I expect them to fight for a final playoff spot.
New York Knicks of course-I wouldn't be surprised at all if they are in the top 4 teams in the East next season. They got the money to get whoever they want. Again I expect them to have one of the top 4 seeds in the East next season.

Western Conference:
Memphis Grizzlies-I expect them to shine if they do indeed resign Gasol which I expect them to do. Top 4 seeded team next season. You better believe it! Write it down. I expect a decline from LA and SA next season meaning of course they won't do as good as they did last season. Possible better playoff success, but not regular season. By postseason success I'm not meaning winning a championship of course.
Utah Jazz-With two picks in the lottery early first round. Plus hearing about them shopping Devin Harris. I think this team could compete for a playoff spot next season.
Portland Trail Blazers-Expecting that they are healthy....LOL! No I think they will finish with a better record and finish as one of the top 5 teams in the West. Andre Miller looks like he will be on the way out.

What teams do you expect to improve after last season? That people should be looking out for?

My rooting 4 and against the Mavs playoff run!

This thread is made for the simple fact I want to show some much needed applause to the Mavs. I have to admit that I along with most of the NBA fans said that they would be knocked out by the Trail Blazers in the first round. They proved me wrong through out. I have hated the Mavs for a very long time. When I was younger and started watching the NBA I rooted for Allen Iverson's team because he was my favorite player. LA was reigning over the Western Conference for several years. Every year I would root against LA for obvious reasons. Kings could never get it done, but the Spurs did which is one of the main reasons why I liked the Spurs. They beat LA like no one else could really do all decade. Liking the Spurs(not my favorite team, but would root for them against certain teams) and their biggest rival in my opinion the Mavs. I think that is what drew the hatred that I had in my heart all these years.

Of course rooting against the Mavs vs virtually every team they faced just about. I rooted for the Heat in the Finals to win their first NBA championship in franchise history. Mavs had a great playoff run that year. Began the Finals series 2-0. The Heat came back and won it all. Of course, I cheered because the team I disliked with a passion lost. The following year the hatred probably got worse with Dirk winning the MVP award. Losing in the first round as the best team in the NBA was awesome at the time. Especially because it was the first time a team ever lost to a #8 seed in a 7 game series.

It cooled down rather with losses early in the playoffs, but I still disliked the team and rooted against the team vs virtually every team. Around 2008 or 2009 I found a guy I strongly disliked. His name was LeBron James. I eventually despised the guy just as much and more than the Mavs. I almost went off topic. I'll try to stay on it here. I rooted against the Mavs vs every team besides the team that Lebron was on since 2008 or 2009. There was no way, I thought that the Mavs would make it to the Finals. Not only that....I never thought I would ever root for the team to win a championship which I did in a rather weird way.

Playoffs began (thank goodness...I was beyond ready for like month before the season ended) of course rooted against the Heat and Mavs. Made a bold statement stating Mavs wouldn't make it out of the first round. That is my upset that didn't happen. My favorite team got the boot in the first round instead. Heat won their series(shocker...not). Mavs beat the Trail Blazers. I said Mavs won't beat LA. I'm gonna make an avatar bet thinking LA is gonna beat them without a doubt. Mavs not only beat LA, they beat them via sweep. If you would have told anyone before the season began LA would be swept they would have called you insane. Not only that, but if you would have said the Mavs of all teams would have swept them I figure they would have laughed at you. After my favorite team was eliminated....I rooted for OKC cuz they were underdogs. Underdogs in what I mean is after they were at the bottom of the NBA via standings  they came back and got to the playoffs and beat LA 2x. I thought that was impressive. I rooted for them cuz what a way it would have been. Meaning story of course in just a little amount of time to win an NBA championship from being one of the worst teams in the NBA without superstar signings or superstar trades. Didn't happen....Mavs beat OKC and were going to the Finals

If you would have told me 3 months ago or 5 years ago I'd be rooting for the Mavs to win their first championship I would have called you crazy cuz there was really no way that could happen unless of the two teams I hate the most face in the Finals. They met and I had to root for the team I have disliked for a very long time. They won their first championship and I was happy for them. Especially Jason Kidd. Rooted for him to win with the Nets vs LA. Good to see it. A good story to end their season. I'd like to say I'm sorry. I'm sorry for showing such lack of respect to the team, owner, ect. You indeed did prove me wrong. I'm rather proud to say that since you beat the Heat. If you would have beat a different team I'd probably be upset right now. In any case, I have to give you the credit you deserve and much respect. Dallas prove not only me wrong, but virtually 95% of the NBA wrong. Congrats to the Mavs of the Cinderella story. I'm proud of the organization and the team. Oh yea, I'm also proud to have the Mavs logo on my avatar all month due to the bet. I wish the team well going forward. Once again congrats to the 2011 NBA Finals Champions......the Dallas Mavericks. Surprised??SurprisedDon't be....STAY JEALOUS!!Cool

Memphis vs Thunder preview West Semis

The series can be debated on who the favorites are. Memphis simply for beating the Spurs. The best team in the Western Conference was a bit of a shocker. Especially in just 5 games. Thunder simply because homecourt and great group of guys. I think the Thunder should be the favorite and they are in my opinion. They got the best player overall and their team is a higher seed.  They are of course everyones pick as a sleeper. The X factor in the series will be Mike Conley. Both his defensive and offensive game will play a huge factor in the series. Westbrook is an elite point guard in my eyes. I like him in the matchup of course. Who is gonna guard Durant? I don't think Young can stop him. Durant is gonna get his points in this series. Guys are gonna have to step up defensively in this series. The matchup I'm looking forward to though is gonna also play a huge factor: Ibake vs Randolph. Randolph had a pretty solid series vs the Spurs, but now he is facing Ibaka, who played pretty well himself. He looked dominant defensively vs the Nuggets. It won't be easy for either. It should be a good challenge for both players. I like the Thunder in this one in 6.

What team/teams can beat the Lakers in the West?

I was wondering what other posters would say which is the reason why I ask the question. To me honestly, LA is going to win title #6 even though I don't want them to. In any case, what team/teams do you believe can beat the Lakers in a 7 game series? I'm talking just West teams by the way. Not EAST teams! To me....I believe only 3 that has the potential to beat the Lakers. The three I give the best chance in the West is the Thunder. Thunder, I have been outspoken about how high I've been on the team. I believe OKC will be playing LA in the Western Conference Finals. Of course the Spurs with all their experience, home court, ect. This may surprise and it may not, but I believe the Blazers could take it to LA. The team is so under-rated. That trade they made for Wallace was a good one. It was overshadowed by the Melo deal. I liked the trade at the deadline Blazers made. If Roy is healthy, I believe the Blazers could beat the Lakers. Well of course, them are the three I give the best chance to beat LA in a 7 game series -Eastern conference teams. What do you think?

What (West)team do you believe has the best chance to beat LA in the playoffs this year?

Biggest surprise thus far midseason:

Made this simply because a lot of folks have different opinions on this. Not expecting everyone to agree with me. Just for fun here.

Who is the biggest surprise to me of the amount of victories this season? To me it is the Spurs. They arn't known as a regular season basketball team. They are known more as a team that waits til playoff team to put up there success. I'm guessing the reason is why is because they are actually healthy which is good. I did not expect the Spurs to reign number one come all-star break. Nor did I expect Lakers to be at number in the Western Conference which might be a bigger surprise.

Who is the biggest surprise by the amount of losses they have? I know a lot of people are gonna say the Cavs, but I expected them to not be in the playoff race. I expected them to struggle without Lebron. I expected them to be one of the 5 teams with the most losses with the Wolves and others. The answer to the question is the Bucks. The Bucks finished the season last year better than I expected than all of a sudden they drop off 5 seeds down. I expected more from the team this year. Did I expect them to finish better or at the same seed? No! I expected them to be a number 7 seed though. Season isn't completely over yet. They can still make the playoffs. All I'm saying is I'm surprised by the dropoff. I didn't expect Philly nor Indiana to be in the position they are. I expected the Bobcats and the Bucks. Of course in every major sport there are surprises.

Portland is also a surprise team as well. Not that, but the fact they are still in the playoff race without Roy and Camby. It seems as if the team is always under the radar. Ah well....just had to throw them in there and show some love. Definately deserve some credit for their season thus far.

So what teams are the biggest surprise to you midseason?

West conference playoff seed predictions 2010-11

Shoulda did this sooner, but really didn't have the time. In any case here is my 2010-11 Western Conference playoff seed predictions!!

1.LA Lakers-Best bench and arguably the best starting five in the league. They are more motivated than ever to make history. 12 NBA titles for Phil Jackson along with a 4th three peat of his coaching career. Kobe going for his sixth ring to tie in some fans opinions the best player to ever play the game Michael Jordan. LA Lakers to tie with most NBA championships won by a team with Boston at 17. So much history not to bank the number 1 seed. They are playing too well right now without Kobe being 100%. Which more than not now days he is injured. Bynum 100% won't matter!

2.OKC Thunder-To me the biggest threat to the reigning NBA champs to get back to the Finals. With Durant being consistant along with being so young I figure this team will be a force in the West and in the NBA years to come after Kobe hangs up his sneakers. The team plays some great defense and they are so unselfish. Maybe because they are young team, but I see great things with this team. I predict they face LA no matter if they are number 2 sometime in the playoffs.

3.New Orleans Hornets-I wouldn't have predicted them to be this high in my predictions til I saw them play....I did predict playoffs o on some post before the season began. If Paul is healthy I don't see why not. Okafor has got to stay consistant and play at the high level he has thus far in the season. Very impressed by his play thus far. Paul is my pick for MVP. Will he be in NO next year? It probably depends on their success in the playoffs.

4.Phoenix Suns-Very good ball team despite the departure of Amare. With Steve Nash playing at the high level as he is year after year I think they have a good chance of giving the Lakers a run like they did last year. Don't think they will knock them out of the playoffs, but will certainly make it a series.

5.SA Spurs-the team may be old, but they have the experience in the playoffs and winning championships. Jefferson acquistion didn't work out as well as one thought. In any case they are still a great basketball team that will have some success in the playoffs. Staying healthy will be key for this team. It could hurt their seed, but they are no push over by any means.

6.Dallas Mavericks-I think they are a bit over-rated. They were the top pick to upset the Lakers last season and of course it didn't happen. Don't think they will make a run in the playoffs. I rather believe they will end up with a disappointing season.

7.Portland Trailblazers-Very good ball team with Roy leading the way. Camby stays healthy I don't see why they can't make the playoffs. Like this young fast paced team.

8.Golden State Warriors-The surprise team to make the playoffs!! Curry and Ellis is a good combo. I figure Melo will be traded and an injury to a Jazz player will end their playoff chances. That is why Warriors will make the playoffs.

That is my 2010-11 Western Conference playoff seed predictions!! What are your predictions?
